The firm.

Named after its founder Raymond K. Tongue, Baltimore-based R. K. Tongue Co., Inc. has continuously operated as an independent insurance agency since 1911. Today, the agency remains independent and privately held.

Our divisions.

R. K. Tongue is organized into practice groups to meet the unique needs of our varied clientele and deliver niche expertise. Our practice groups are Professional & Commercial Markets, Group Benefits, Personal Lines, and Worksite/Voluntary Benefits Marketing. Each division is independent and geared specifically toward effectively serving its unique clientele, but these groups will often partner to deliver multi-product expertise to clients that benefit from a “one stop shop” approach for every insurance and benefits need.

Professional & Commercial Markets Practice.

The Professional & Commercial Markets Practice is comprised of Property & Casualty and Life & Health licensed agents and service consultants specialized in customizing insurance solutions predominantly for businesses, professionals, and healthcare specialists such as Dentists, Attorneys, Accountants/CPAs, Physicians, Veterinarians, Optometrists, Consultants, and Government Contractors, to name a few. Product offerings range from malpractice and other forms of liability insurance to property, workers comp, individual disability, life, long term care and all related subsets of insurance. Many products are available on various platforms including individual, group and association.

Worksite/Voluntary Benefits Marketing Practice.

The Worksite/Voluntary Benefits Marketing Practice predominantly serves our longstanding relationships with government employee associations and unions that benefit from our sophisticated payroll deduction enrollment and administration capabilities. This team of experienced Life & Health licensed agents, benefits enrollers, and service consultants also partners with other practice groups to provide voluntary benefits programs and enrollment capabilities to small and middle markets private sector employers. Supplemental benefits offered through the Worksite/Voluntary Benefits Marketing Practice include voluntary life insurance, short-term disability, accident, sickness, and cancer plans.

Group Benefits Practice.

The Group Benefits Practice consults with small and mid-sized employers to design and broker employee benefits packages that include medical, dental, vision, short & long term disability, and life insurance. The highly knowledgeable members of this practice group can also help employers source and implement benefits administration systems and obtain compliance resources. This team will often partner with our Voluntary Benefits Practice to help employers offer competitive benefits packages on budget.

Personal Insurance Practice.

The Personal Insurance Practice works with individuals and, most commonly, our business owner clients, to place auto, home, boat / yacht / toy insurance through major and niche insurers. As with our other practice groups, The Personal Insurance Practice is experienced with specialized insurance needs. This practice consults and brokers insurance on personally owned property like collectible vehicles, high-value homes, recreational vehicles, and boats / yachts. The sophisticated members of this practice are as comfortable handling challenging niche needs, as they are finding the best insurance value for a first home purchase.
