For the newsletter we want to highlight something special about all of our employees. We have a great team and want to help you get to know everyone in the office whether you speak to them daily or they are working in silence behind the scenes!
This month the spotlight is being shone on Wendy Smith! Wendy is our Business Manager and is instrumental in keeping the office running smoothly. She’s detailed and thorough when dealing with our accounts and manages the billing specialists here at R.K Tongue as well. A woman of many talents and expertise, lets learn a bit about what makes her tick!
Getting to know Wendy!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
“ I love the flexibility and being only 15 minutes from home. As for the job itself, accounting is easy for me, so I enjoy that. I am definitely not a salesperson (lol). The people are great, and I like being able to help our employees and our customers as needed.”
What inspires/ motivates you?
“I would have to say feeling needed. My job is pretty much just me and making sure my department employees stay on top of their jobs. So, when I can help out another employee or a customer it makes it that much better.”
How do you like to unwind after work?
“Tuesday nights at Red Brick Station – dollar beer night. There is a group of regulars, and we all get to say hi and check in on each other. I also ride my road bike on the weekends (weather permitting) and do walks. I sing in the worship team at church and am a deacon. Pretty busy but for real down time it is lounging with my husband and cat and watching football (college and pro).”
What’s a memorable experience you’ve had working at R.K. Tongue?
“Well, let me think. There was the 100th anniversary party at the Center Club back in 2011, Christmas parties are pretty great – Fogo de Chao especially. COVID was pretty crazy and memorable – most of the time it was just Ruta and I in the office. Retirement parties (2), funerals (2) especially sad.”
If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
“Martha from the bible. We are kindred spirits I think – always doing and planning and running around and worried about what needs to be done. I always wanted to be a Mary (enjoying the moment and not concerned with the “duties”) but haven’t quite figured out how yet.”
